The History of Tramadol
The creation of Tramadol
Tramadol is a pain medication that has a formula very similar to narcotics, but is much safer and more effective for relieving pain and reducing symptoms. The drug has been in the market since 1977, when it was introduced by Grunenthal, a European manufacturer, as Tramadol Hydrochloride designed for pain relief. It eventually entered the United States market during the 1980s, after which it slowly rose to popularity in the medical world. It was created specifically as a medication to alleviate pain, ranging from moderate to acute. It was also designed for use in specific situations or conditions where pain relief is necessary, and was powered with a fast-acting formula that helped make the drug popular for its rapid effects. Due to its many uses and its guaranteed effects, Grunenthal was able to build a strong market for Tramadol. It has now come a long way from being a new medication in the market to being the most commonly prescribed pain medication and the routine medication for use in certain conditions.
How Tramadol came about
Tramadol belongs to a group of pain medications called as opioids or opiates. These refer to the pain medicines that have opium as the base ingredient in the formula. Ever since the nineteenth century, humans have known the pain relieving effects of the narcotic called opium. Even if it was a narcotic and was addictive, its effects as a pain reliever far outweighed that particular disadvantage. It managed to survive through centuries because of its unique and fast-acting ability to relieve pain, which was something that people in the past have tried to do using various methods. Despite other efforts such as surgical operations and herbal medicine that were all used to try and reduce pain, the people in the past still stuck with opium as a primary pain reliever. Based on historical data and actual evidences, Tramadol was created and designed to have the same effects as opium, but only safer. Despite past efforts to try and find other means to relieve pain, it was only when Tramadol was created that the need for a safe but effective pain medication was answered. Due to the lack of better options, people are willing to overlook the fact that Tramadol is a narcotic-based analgesic medication.
What makes Tramadol different
Tramadol has other medications similar to it, namely Morphine and Vicodin. However, it has less potency, which is basically the reason why it is more accessible than the other two. It is still within the threshold of being a safe narcotic-based analgesic. Aside from that, it can provide relief similar to what can be provided by NSAIDs or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, but it is much safer because it does not bring about extreme stomach-related problems like NSAIDs do. In a nutshell, it is different because it can do what it has to do without causing too many problems on the side. Of course, this is provided that the patient will take the Tramadol properly and in the correct and prescribed dosages. Taking the drug in excess can still trigger grave consequences to the person’s health and can even prove to be fatal. It is an effective pain medication and it is safe, but it should still be taken with care.
Tramadol today
Tramadol (Generic Ultram) has indeed been successful in what it is doing. It is now widely available all over the world, and can even be bought online. Despite the obvious disadvantages of taking Tramadol, which includes adverse side effects both physical and psychological, as well as addiction and dependency, and even death, it has managed to make people focus on its good points, that of being a very effective agent for pain relief for any kind of pain, like pain connected to surgery or diseases, musculoskeletal pain, pain caused by any injury, and even simple joint pains or headaches. In the present, Tramadol is already the routinary drug prescription when a pain reliever is called for. It is widely used in hospitals, not only in doctor prescriptions, but also in surgeries and major treatments. However, it has also managed to make a rather controversial name for itself as well. Tramadol’s effectiveness as a pain medicine has made it a commonly used drug. But due to tge wide-scale usage of Tramadol, a large number of people have also fallen prey to Tramadol addiction. Opinions about the drug are varied. Over the years, Tramadol has increased in popularity, both good and bad, but its effects and benefits have not wavered one bit. |
